   Meeting the challenges of

Living Well in the Community

Presented by

  Philip McCallion, Ph.D. ACSW

Professor in the School of Social Welfare at the University at Albany and co-Director of the Center for Excellence in Aging and Community Wellness.

With a growing population interested in continuing to be active and to live in the community settings they choose there are challenges given chronic illness and late onset disability for some, reduced support of aging-specific programs and a feeling among many older adults that available provision does not meet their needs. This presentation will review innovative program models to support successful aging and the role of university-based researchers both in investigating innovation and in ensuring its effective dissemination.

This presentation will chronicle the history of the migrants and challenges in preserving the Rapp Road Community’s history.

Jennifer Lemak is a Senior Historian and Curator of African American History at the New York State Museum. She earned an M.A. in Public History and a Ph.D. in American History, both at the University at Albany. Prior to becoming a Senior Historian, Dr. Lemak worked for seven years in the curatorial department at the Albany Institute of History & Art.
